Cross-Layer Support for Group-Communication Applications in MANETs

چکیده
P2P systems are a natural way of supporting groupcommunication applications in MANETs. In this paper we discuss our experiences in developing such an application in the real world. We highlight limitations of legacy P2P systems, and show that solutions based on cross-layer optimisations are very promising.

On developing P2P Group-Communication Applications in Real-World MANETs: and Experimental Study
Group-communication applications are a very promising opportunity for developing valuable MANET-based applications. However, real-world experimental studies are required to indicate the best solutions to implement them. We have implemented a real prototype in which alternative networking stacks can be used to support a distributed Whiteboard application. By means of experimental results we show...

متن کاملP2P support for Group-Communication Applications: a Cross-Layer Approach for MANET Environments
P2P systems are a natural way of supporting GroupCommunication (GC) applications. Furthermore, their core characteristics (e.g., self-organisation, self-recovery, decentralisation) match particularly well MANET features. For these reasons we developed and tested a simple yet significant GC application on top of different P2P substrates. Our aim is to understand which type of P2P system is more ...
متن کاملCross-layer signalling and middleware: A survey for inelastic soft real-time applications in MANETs
This paper provides a review of the different Cross Layer Design and protocol tuning approaches that may be used to meet a growing need to support inelastic soft real-time streams in MANETs. These streams are characterised by critical timing and throughput requirements and low packet loss tolerance levels. Many Cross Layer approaches exist either for provision of QoS to soft real-time streams i...
متن کاملA Cross-Layer Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Based On Minimum Interference Duration
Cross-layer design of routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) has become a hot research topic in recent years. By integrating physical layer, MAC layer and network layer together for cross-layer design, a cross-layer routing protocol called MIR is proposed in this paper. Via predicting the duration of the interference imposed by the neighbors at every hop along the route, a new rou...
